ALKMAAR, NETHERLANDS - APRIL 4, 2025: A massive crowd of tourists from around the world streams into the Alkmaar cheese market, the oldest in the world, as the 2025 season has begun in the Netherlands. Footage from April 4 shows blocks of inspectors examining cheese and carriers taking blocks of cheese away to purchasers. Traditionally held from the last Friday of March to the last Friday of September, the market welcomes visitors every Friday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cheese market offers a unique glimpse into the country's rich heritage of cheese-making. According to the event’s official website, the Alkmaar cheese market is considered to date back to 1593.
