Communication cables explode above street in Thailand
This is the moment tangled communication cables exploded jolting residents in Thailand.
CCTV footage shows the overhead cables erupting in a shower of sparks that fell on a road in Chiang Mai province, on March 28.
Firemen rushed to the scene after the sparks ignited dried grass and leaves near the fallen cables.
Authorities said the wires did not carry a current, but were believed to have caught fire from a low-voltage power line they were in contact with.
Local shop owner Siripa Maneethong said she has previously seen sparks flying from the notoriously tangled cables in the city.
She said: 'I always worry about these tangled wires. If the authorities don't fix them properly, an explosion could happen again, and it might be worse.'
The cable company has since dispatched engineers to replace the damaged lines.
Tangled cables are a common sight in Thai cities like Bangkok and Chiang Mai, where a web of overhead wires clutter the streets and pose fire hazards.
