This is the shocking moment a driverless car went haywire, crashing into road barriers in China.

CCTV footage shows the white Chery Tiggo 5x ramming into metal barricades while manoeuvering along the roadside in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, on March 31.

The safety grills can be seen tumbling down as the sub-SUV rolls over them.

Upon noticing the vehicle in motion, two concerned motorists chased after it, with one opening the driver's side door, only to find a black dog inside with no driver.

The canine then stepped out of the car and ran away, while the visibly confused man slammed the door after gazing at the animal.

Police reportedly arrived to investigate the incident and contacted the company that owned the vehicle.

In July last year, a Baidu-operated robotaxi in Wuhan made minor contact with a pedestrian who was crossing against the light.

In August 2022, an XPeng vehicle equipped with a driver assistance system collided with a stationary vehicle on a highway in Ningbo, resulting in a fatality.

China began the use of driverless cars in 2022 when Beijing granted autonomous driving permits to Baidu and Pony.ai, enabling them to operate driverless robotaxis on public roads.
