A distracted motorcycle rider crashed into the back of a car on a busy road.

The motorist was tailing the vehicle in front while he kept looking to his right - in a bid to switch lanes - before hitting it in Phuket, Thailand.

Dashcam footage shows the motorbike rider on a red helmet with his pillion passenger slamming the back of the car in front.

He slammed the brakes and almost lost balance with his passenger but the embarrassed man quickly returned to driving and left. No one was seriously hurt or damaged by the incident on December 8.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
