Port Orchard, United States - March 29, 2025 A 50-year-old man has appeared in court after being charged as a “chicken thief.” He allegedly violated an order of protection by breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s house and stealing her pet chicken, named Polly. The incident began early on March 29 when the woman called for help. She reported that her former boyfriend had invaded her home and taken her chicken. He allegedly screamed, “I’ve got Polly,” multiple times before fleeing with the bird. After a short search, police found the man hiding in the woods. Bodycam footage captured him in bushes, yelling, “Don’t hurt my chicken!” A deputy reassured him, “I won’t hurt your chicken,” as they approached. Deputies let the man place Polly safely in a patrol vehicle before arresting him. He faces charges of residential burglary and violating an order of protection. Jail records show he had been released from custody less than three hours earlier. According to Kitsap Daily News, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a $12,747.20 fine for burglary, plus a year and $3,186.80 in fines for violating the court order. The victim said he had just gotten out of jail and targeted her favorite chicken. The story gained attention online, with a clip of the incident earning 119,000 views in 24 hours.
