Spanish police seize 50 kilos of cocaine bound for the UK
Spanish police seized 50 kilos of cocaine bound for the UK.
Officers confiscated the illegal substance hidden in a truck in Madrid, with four individuals arrested during a drug bust operation.
The investigation into a criminal organization allegedly smuggling drugs systematically from Spain to other countries began in early March.
This led authorities to discover that the group had secured a truck and driver for the shipment.
The vehicle was reportedly spotted entering an industrial estate in Mostoles, where private warehouses were illegally used to hide cocaine in trucks over weekends when they were closed to the public.
After an hour, the truck began its journey along the A-1 highway toward Burgos, escorted by a 'scout' vehicle and another for protection, ensuring the shipment's safety.
Police set up a checkpoint at a gas station in El Molar, where the driver and his escorts stopped for a mandatory rest.
Upon inspecting the lorry's cab, officers found a modified fuel tank containing a sophisticated compartment with 48 cocaine packages.
The three individuals responsible for the transport were arrested on the spot, while police simultaneously monitored the warehouses where the drugs were concealed.
Police said a search the following day led to the arrest of the facility's caretaker, who lived on-site and assisted in hiding the cocaine.
The seized cocaine had potential profits exceeding 1.5 million euros for the criminal organization. The group had purchased vegetables and tomatoes in Almeria to mask the drug shipment.
The arrests of the detained individuals, key members of the network, dismantled one of its operational hubs.
