Turkey: Thousands March in Istanbul to Protest Israel’s Attacks on Gaza
Türkiye - April 06, 2025 Israel’s escalating attacks on Gaza were protested in Istanbul. In response to a global call for action by Palestinian resistance groups, thousands gathered in front of Barbaros Mosque in the Levent district and marched to the Israeli Consulate. The protest drew not only Turkish citizens but also participants from several Arab countries, including Palestine, Egypt, and Syria. During the demonstration, posters of deceased leaders from Hamas and the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades were displayed, and Israel’s attacks were strongly condemned. Protesters expressed their support for the resistance, frequently chanting slogans commonly heard in Palestine, such as “Turn to the sword, take up the sword — we are the men of Mohammed al-Deif” and “Salutations to the Ezz Al-Din Brigades.” The march featured loud chants of takbir (the Islamic phrase "Allahu Akbar"), and tensions briefly flared between police and demonstrators. Some protesters symbolically portrayed injured medics and deceased infants from Gaza, with bloodied props used to represent the human cost of the conflict. The march concluded with speeches in front of the Israeli Consulate. SPEECHS 00:41:27 - 01:06:23 Ibrahim Fikri (Egyptian student): We're doing whatever we can, even if it's just a small effort, for the children in Gaza. And if we're able to do more, we absolutely will. Today, we're here to show our support for the people of Palestine — the children, the women. We're doing our best to help in any way we can. 02:27:13 - 03:04:06 Muhammed Özdemir: We are Muslims, and we know that Muslims are like parts of a single body; when one part is in pain or suffers, the entire body feels it. In line with the values laid out for us by the Messenger of Allah, we are taking the actions we believe are necessary. Today, we are here to do what must be done now. Tomorrow, we are ready to stand by this struggle in another way. May Allah accept our deeds as sincere intentions, and may He grant us the strength to do everything we can to help lift the oppression from our brothers and sisters over there.
