President Vucic announced at a press conference in the capital Belgrade that he has nominated Prof. Dr. Djuro Macut, a endocrinologist and academic at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Belgrade, to form the new government. On Jan. 28, Former Prime Minister Milos Vucevic resigned on January 28. His decision came a day after demonstrators, supported by farmers, blocked a major intersection in Belgrade in a daylong protest. The wave of demonstrations began after the collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad on Nov. 1, which killed 15 people. Protesters have accused the government of negligence and corruption, calling for transparency and accountability.
