A driver ran a red light, crashing straight into a police cruiser.

A red Chrysler PT Cruiser collided with a passing patrol car on Wilson Mills Road in Chester Township, Ohio, on April 2 evening.

Dashcam footage shows the officer, who had a green light, when the red vehicle suddenly crashed into his car, causing the airbag to deploy.

Police Chief Craig Young said: 'The driver was heading northbound on Caves Road, ran a red light, and hit the cruiser at full speed.

'Both vehicles sustained major damage, and everyone involved was taken to Hillcrest Hospital for evaluation. They were treated and released.'

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating, and citations are expected to be issued.

The cruiser was totaled, with replacement costs estimated between 57,000 USD to 70,000 USD.

Authorities urge drivers to remain vigilant to prevent such incidents from occurring.
