China: East China county embraces high-flying drone technology
[Voiceover] Dongshan County of eastern China's Fujian Province is using AI-enhanced drones to help in a range of low-altitude economy scenarios from forest patrols to fishing optimization to city planning. Low-altitude economy refers to the economic activities and industries centered around manned and unmanned aerial vehicles in airspace usually within 1,000 meters off the ground. The founder of a company that makes AI drone software says that Dongshan County's drone development and usage is soaring. [Soundbite] Zhu Shengli, Co-founder, I-KINGTEC Company: "We are using drones to work as forest rangers, inspectors, traffic police officers, and city management officers in the air. In fact, the creation of these roles has helped reduce costs and improve efficiency in the governance of our county." [Voiceover] Besides emergency management, drones are also being used to assist electricity network planning. [Soundbite] Lin Huichen, Director, UAV Demonstration Project, State Grid Dongshan County: "We can use the drone as if we have someone on-site. It can help design the power supply points to be connected to the grid and plan the routes for power lines, reducing construction time by about 35 percent." [Voiceover] The Civil Aviation Administration of China estimates that the value of the country's low-altitude market will increase from about 206 billion U.S. dollars this year to some 482 billion by the year 2035.
