Philippines - April 06, 2025 Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel, BRP Cabra, is holding its ground against the China Coast Guard vessel 3302. The PCG is challenging what it calls an illegal patrol in the West Philippine Sea. Despite radio warnings from the PCG, China insists its actions are lawful. The BRP Cabra has successfully pushed the Chinese vessel further out. It’s now 92-96 nautical miles off Capones Island. This shows the PCG’s resolve to protect Philippine waters and stop China from normalizing its unlawful presence. Earlier today, the China Coast Guard vessel 3302 tried a dangerous move. It nearly collided head-on with the smaller BRP Cabra. The PCG says this reckless act ignored international safety rules under the 1972 COLREGs, which China has signed. Only the skill of the BRP Cabra crew prevented a crash. The PCG remains calm and professional despite these provocations. PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan has urged his team to assert Philippine rights without raising tensions. This follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to defend national interests while keeping peace in the region.
