This is the shocking moment a train crashed into a truck at a level crossing in Minnesota.

Dashcam footage shows the lorry attempting to cross the railway when it was struck by the speeding locomotive on US Highway 14 in Sleepy Eye.

The 1996 International Harvester semi-truck, driven by Robert Thomas Jewett, 24, was turning across the other lane when it was hit by the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad train.

The cargo trailer was rammed by the train, sending a blast of grain flying into the air upon impact on April 4.

Police reported that two train occupants, identified as Jeffrey Alan Schafer, 56, and Thomas Herman Behsman, 57, were onboard at the time of the collision.

Both the driver and the train operators reportedly sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

A photo of the aftermath shows the lorry and train visibly damaged, while the Wilson grain trailer attached to the lorry was ripped in half.

Emergency crews from the Sleepy Eye Ambulance, Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Brown County Sheriff's Office responded swiftly to the incident.

Following the crash, the Brown County Sheriff's Office issued a reminder urging drivers to exercise caution at railway crossings.

Authorities stressed the importance of slowing down, staying alert, and waiting until the gates are fully raised and the lights have stopped flashing before proceeding.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
