Storyline: Embodied AI brings robots closer to human-like agility in China [Voice_over] China's high-tech companies are making substantial progress in developing embodied AI robots, or those that can perceive, learn, and interact in dynamic real-world situations with humans. This robot from a Beijing-based company is about 1.7 meters tall and weighs about 63 kilos. It can run 3.6 meters per second and can lift 20 kilos with just its four fingers. One of the company's founders said with its deep learning capacities, the robot can perform refined tasks that take a delicate hand… like pouring champagne into a flute. [Sound_bite] Xi Yue, co-founder, high-tech company: "The ultimate goal is to allow robots to become a part of people's homes. If the robots' hands are dexterous enough, they will be able to better adapt and integrate perfectly in home environment where humans live. They will also be able to use all the tools like human and take on a wide range of tasks.” [Voice_over] Another company in Beijing has equipped its embodied AI robot with bionic muscles and skin to create a life-like face. After undergoing deep learning and training, the robot can activate its muscles and skin to display over 200 dynamic expressions for six basic emotions. The director of the company said lifelike humanoid robots will be especially useful in the elderly care sector. [Sound_bite] Li Mengwei, technical director, high-tech company: "If the robot can express emotions, it will naturally be closer to humans. Why do we want to add this feature? First, for reception purposes. Second, we want it to serve in elderly care communities.” [Voice_over] China has made great efforts to develop embodied AI, highlighted it in this year's government work report. The country aims to establish a preliminary innovation system for humanoid robots by 2025, with plans to have a secure, reliable industrial and supply chain system by 2027, when related products are expected to be deeply integrated into the real economy.
