Fish battles to escape monitor lizard gang hungry for lunch
This is the dramatic moment fish fought to escape a gang of monitor lizards that were hungry for lunch.
The four ravenous reptiles gnawed at a hapless sea creature on the pavement at Lumpini Park in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 30.
Footage captured by Kim Lennie Gumanib shows one predator catching its meal, only for its companions to quickly join in.
The lizards can be seen biting into the fish, with others attempting to snatch it away.
Kim said: 'This is where the real VIPs aren't tourists, but these massive monitor lizards. They roam like they own the place, chilling in ponds, crossing paths like celebrities, and low-key scaring joggers.'
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
