On April 6 in Shanghai, an elderly man was riding an electric scooter and attempted to illegally pass through a vehicle lane gate from the side. Misjudging the timing of the barrier arm, it came down and struck a child riding with him on the head. The child burst into tears from the impact, and the man, visibly emotional, reacted by forcefully snapping the barrier arm in frustration.

After the incident, staff responsible for managing the gate stopped the man. Following a discussion, he agreed to take responsibility for his reckless actions and cover the cost of the damage.

According to Article 49 of the Public Security Administration Punishments Law of the People's Republic of China, deliberately damaging public or private property can result in 5–10 days of detention and a fine of up to 500 yuan. If the damage is significant, the offender may also face criminal charges.
