Toddler rolls down steep hillside - pregnant mum dislocates ankle in rescue attempt
On April 7, a mother from Zhaotong, Yunnan, released a dramatic surveillance video capturing a terrifying incident that occurred in February last year.
The footage shows a 2-year-old boy playing near the doorway when he accidentally tumbles down a slope over three meters high—a highly dangerous situation.
Upon realising the boy had fallen, both his father and his mother, who was eight months pregnant at the time, immediately rushed down the slope to rescue him. The father reacted swiftly, managing to catch the child just before he hit the road. The mother, disregarding her own safety, followed close behind.
Thanks to the father's quick response, the child was safely caught and avoided serious injury. However, the mother fell during the rescue, dislocating her ankle and suffering multiple scrapes and bruises from her foot to her thigh, which required her to remain on bed rest for two months.
Fortunately, the unborn baby was unharmed and was safely delivered at 41 weeks.
The mother said she didn’t think about her own safety at the time—her only thought was to save her child. After the incident, she acknowledged the danger and has since installed fencing to prevent similar accidents in the future.
