China: China vows to "fight till the end" if US pursues tariff escalation
[Voiceover] China's Foreign Ministry says it will take necessary measures against the latest tariff threats from the United States. Spokesperson Lin Jian said China will "fight till the end" if the US persists with escalating tariffs. Tuesday's remarks come after US President Trump threatened an additional 50-percent levy on Chinese imports on top of the 34-percent fee announced last week. [Soundbite] Lin Jian, Spokesman, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "I want to emphasize once again that there are no winners in a trade war or tariff war, and protectionism offers no way out. The Chinese people do not provoke trouble, nor do we fear it. Pressure, threats, and blackmail are not the right ways to engage with China. China will certainly take necessary measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. China is ready to fight till the end if the United States disregards the interests of both countries and the international community and is bent on waging a tariff war or trade war." [Voiceover] Meanwhile, China's Ministry of Commerce says that the tariffs are baseless and an act of unilateral bullying...and China has a right to take countermeasures to defend its rights and interests. China reiterated that there are no winners in a trade war, and protectionism is not a solution. It urged the US to immediately correct its actions, cancel all unilateral tariffs on China, and stop economic and trade suppression against China. It says the way to resolve differences should be through equal dialogue based on mutual respect. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
