Couple flee as train smashes into car stuck on level crossing
A couple fled as a train smashed into a car stuck on a level crossing.
CCTV footage shows the black hatchback attempting to pass through the trackway when one of its front tyres became jammed in Belgium.
Upon realising that the driver was unable to manoeuvre back, they immediately stepped out of the vehicle and moved away from the railway.
Moments later, the locomotive passed by, ramming the four-wheeler and causing it to spin, with shattered parts of the car flying into the air.
No one was reportedly injured in the incident.
Following the incident, the Infrabel railway infrastructure company urged people to avoid taking risks at level crossings.
The railway manager said: 'When the red lights are flashing, they should stop immediately and check if the barriers are coming down. If someone is stuck on the tracks, they should exit the vehicle quickly and call 1711.'
