Giant cave cockroach molting on my hand

Buy video

At the Bohart Museum of Entomology, in UC Davis, California, a South American giant cave cockroach molts on my hand. This is just a small clip of it; the whole process lasted over an hour. You can see the animal itself pulsing its body to push open the exoskeleton and push itself out.

Sound is muted so the conversation is not heard.

Additional pictures of the cockroach at different stages of molting are at the following link: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3288284 .
