Shocking footage has emerged from Providencia, Chile, of police clashing with student protesters during a demonstration against the education policies of the current Government.

The video, filmed this week, shows heavily armoured police officers dispersing the crowd with a massive water cannon, before the filmer takes cover in a Starbucks cafe.

The filmer wrote online: ''I had to go into a Starbucks to escape the gas.
