A missing Austrian pensioner was found dead more than 10 days after he disappeared from his home in Thailand.

Johann Perhap, 77, was discovered lifeless along a dirth path overgrown with vegetation in northern Phitsanulok province, on March 31.

He was wearing black socks, sandals, and a pair of black shorts pulled down to his knees. His body was already desiccated, indicating he had been dead for some time.

A farmer stumbled upon the cadaver while working at a rice field nearby. The shocked villager reported the grim discovery to the police, who arrived at the scene with forensic experts.

Johann's distraught Thai wife, Ratchanee Charoenparb, 65, and her relatives rushed to the site upon being notified by the cops.

Footage shows them sobbing in grief as officers collected the Austrian's corpse.

The bereaved wife said: 'We have been searching for 11 days since he went missing on March 20. I am finally relieved that we have found his body. I do not think any foul play was involved.'

However, police said they will conduct investigations as the deceased reportedly had trouble walking on his own.

Police Colonel Phanuwat Phuchomphet, superintendent of the Wang Thong District Police Station, said: 'We have to investigate further because the deceased struggled to walk even on normal roads. He had to use a cane to support himself, and he couldn't lift his feet that high.

'The scene where he was found was not paved, strewn with dirt and broken branches that would make it difficult for anyone to navigate. How could he have made it there alone?

'Though his relatives raised no objections, the police remain suspicious. We do not believe he could have reached the area by himself. We will continue to investigate to uncover the truth and proceed with legal action.'
