Phone light found in Bangkok earthquake rubble sparks glimmer of hope
A phone light found in a collapsed building in Bangkok has sparked hopes that there may be earthquake victims still alive under the rubble.
Rescue teams spotted the faint rays of light glowing from the carnage of the crumbled State Audit Office today. The light was reportedly accompanied by the sound of a Samsung phone activating.
When the officers yelled into the void to ask if the owner was still alive, the phone screen was said to have turned on and off, indicating potential signs of life.
Rescuers said radar equipment has detected two bodies buried near each other in the area where the phone was found.
Officials today said they have recovered four more bodies, including a Burmese man, buried under the debris.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said 27 people were killed while 67 were missing.
A 7.7 magnitude quake struck Myanmar on March 28, around 12:50 pm local time. More than 3,600 have died and some 5,000 were injured.
Retrieval operations were ongoing in both distressed countries, with numerous nations sending assistance and emergency responders to help with the disaster.
