China: Robot 'brain' trainers in growing demand in China
Storyline: Robot 'brain' trainers in growing demand in China [Voice_over] Simple tasks for us, like picking up a glass or opening a fridge, are tricky for robots. It's not just about moving right, but thinking right. That's where robot brain trainers step in. They build virtual worlds where robots mess up, try again, and slowly get smarter. [Sound_bite] Qian Xucheng, Robot brain trainer: "I used to focus on movement control. Now, I train their 'brain' - teaching them to understand the world." [Voice_over] Why virtual worlds? Because in real life, it would take years - and a fortune - for robots to learn by trial and error. In simulation, with AI, they can rack up a million lessons in a day. And it's not just about putting 3D objects on a screen. Trainers have to recreate how light, space, and physics feel, so robots don't just see - they "get it". This is no one-man job. The team blends programming, architecture, even biomedical engineering - all to make virtual worlds behave like the real one. [Sound_bite] Wei Rong, Robot brain trainer: "My research was on dynamic lighting. Applied to robots, it helps them see the world more like how we humans perceive it. Training embodied intelligence is a long process, so we need talents from different fields to collaborate." [Voice_over] These virtual training grounds are already in use at top robot companies. And business is booming. Job applications for robot brain trainers this spring? Nine times more than last year with students from top universities lining up. Some companies are even opening 30 new spots just for students to join the robot classroom. [Sound_bite] Wang Peijun, Brand PR leader, Qunhe Technology: "We're looking for talents in areas like geometry construction, 3D rendering, and spatial training. We hope more students will join us to train the next generation of intelligent robots." [Voice_over] And who knows the next time a robot serves you coffee or tidies your home, you just might have a robot brain trainer to thank. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
