US: Helicopter Crash Video Shows Hudson River Tragedy
Jersey City, United States - April 10, 2025 X user @card0312 published a video of a helicopter crash in the Hudson River that killed six people on April 10th afternoon. The incident occurred at 3:17 p.m. near the Holland Tunnel ventilation shaft in Jersey City, close to River Drive South and Newport Parkway. New York City Mayor Eric Adams said three adults and three children died, including a family of five from Spain and the pilot. All bodies were recovered. Siemens executive Agustin Escobar, his wife, and their three children, aged 4, 5, and 11, were on board, the company confirmed. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said NYPD and FDNY divers recovered the victims. Four were pronounced dead at the scene, and two died in hospitals. Emergency responders gathered on both sides of the river, with NYPD mobilizing on Manhattan’s West Side Highway and Spring Street. The helicopter, a Bell 206 from New York Helicopters, took off from Lower Manhattan at 3 p.m. It flew over Governor’s Island, near the Statue of Liberty, and along the Hudson before crashing. The video showed parts of the helicopter breaking apart mid-air. Witness Sarah Jane Raymond Ryer saw the propeller separate, spinning alone as it fell. Jersey City residents heard a loud sound like thunder, followed by sirens. The video captured flotation devices in the water, but the fuselage and tail were not visible. The FAA and NTSB are investigating. The Coast Guard set a safety zone, halting vessel traffic and affecting ferries. Weather included overcast skies and winds up to 21 mph. New York Helicopter CEO Michael Roth said the company is devastated and unaware of the cause. The helicopter was owned by Meridian Helicopters, a Louisiana brokerage. President Trump posted on Truth Social, calling the crash terrible and noting Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is overseeing the response.
