TEHRAN, IRAN - MARCH 31, 2025: Shia Muslims in Iran flocked to the Shah Abdol-Azim Hasani Shrine in southern Tehran to perform the Eid al-Fitr prayer, marking the end of Ramadan, on Monday, March 31. From early morning, Iranians filled the shrine grounds with religious chants and prayers. Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr with prayers, feasts, and social gatherings marking the end of Ramadan's month-long dawn-to-dusk fasting. It is the first one of the two main festivals in Islam, the other being Eid al-Adha. Some countries began to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, while others mark the festival on Monday. Religious authorities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Bahrain said the new crescent of Shawwal (10th month of the Islamic calendar) was sighted Saturday and Eid al-Fitr will be observed Sunday. Authorities in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, and Türkiye made similar announcements. Eid al-Fitr, however, will be celebrated Monday in Oman, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Algeria and Tunisia as the new moon could not be sighted. Iraq’s Sunni and Shia Muslims will also mark the festival on Monday. Muslims in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh will also welcome the festival on Monday.
