Originally built during the French colonial period, it operated through the Vietnam War, notorious for extreme punishment and suffering. The prison's "Tiger Cages" were particularly infamous—small, cramped cells designed for severe confinement and torture. Prisoners endured inhumane conditions and brutal treatment. With 120 cells, it was one of Vietnam’s harshest prisons. Today, Con Dao Prison serves as a historical site, preserving the memory of those who suffered and reminding visitors of the country’s painful past.
