A fisherman stranded in sea on his overturned boat was rescued by a passing ferry.

Footage shows the trawler clinging to the hull while floating amid choppy waves as passengers spotted him in the strait of Bali in Indonesia.

The local appeared exhausted while riding the strong tides in his capsized vessel.

He had been drifting in the water for almost a day before he was found by chance on March 23.

Passenger Gilang Pryadi said: 'He was swept by strong currents and winds. His boat capsized but survived.

'We had to wait three hours before the rescue operation started.'

A passing fishing boat helped with the rescue. They took him aboard and fed him before assisting him home.

This came three days after a ship ran aground in Bali Strait after being pushed by strong waves on March 20, when 77 passengers were rescued.
