VARIOUS TIGHT SHOTS ON TENTS AND MIGRANTS ON RIVERBANK PARIS, FRANCE - MARCH 30: French authorities are set to evacuate hundreds of young migrants camped along the Seine River near Île Saint-Louis, following their removal from the occupied Gaîté Lyrique theater last month, police confirmed Friday. Police Prefect Laurent Nuñez announced the impending operation on RMC radio, stating: "I gave them until today to evacuate the quays." The migrants—estimated at over 250 people living in 140 tents—have been sheltering there since their March 18 eviction from the Gaîté Lyrique performance hall in Paris’s 2nd arrondissement. The administrative court approved the clearance, citing risks to public health and safety, including a lack of access to clean water and sanitation. Authorities warned the encampment posed "ongoing public disorder through significant sanitary and security hazards." The group includes many who claim to be minors, though officials dispute their status. Their initial occupation of Gaîté Lyrique—which housed over 400 migrants for three months—ended violently on March 18, when police clashed with activists during the eviction. 46 people were arrested, some facing deportation after legal review.
