A Cessna 310 plane crashed next to a road in Florida, killing three on board.

Footage shows the light aircraft wreckage as it was engulfed in flames near I-95 overpass at Glades Road and Military Trail in Boca Raton on April 11.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane departed from Boca Raton Airport bound for Tallahassee.

A nearby car was also damaged when it pushed a car onto the railroad tracks.

Eyewitness Taina said: 'It was just honestly shocking. Prior to the plane crashing I could hear and see it going around in circles and I was looking around for it through my rear view because it was so odd to me.

'I just felt the ground shake a little and looked over and there was a big flame followed by smoke. It honestly got me really shook.'

Roads near the scene were closed temporarily as officials worked to secure the area.

The FAA said small plane crashes are often linked to mechanical issues or pilot error, but the exact cause remains unknown.

An investigation into the cause of the plane crash is ongoing.
