The discussions took place during a panel titled "Syria: A Country of Reconciliation and Reconstruction" at the NEST Congress Center in Belek on Saturday, Apr.12. Jeffrey Sachs, President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, delivered strong remarks about external influences on regional conflicts. "The ongoing instability in Syria and neighboring regions stems largely from foreign interventions," Sachs stated. He specifically mentioned the role of certain international actors in perpetuating tensions, while noting that diplomatic solutions remain possible with proper engagement. On the humanitarian front, Carl Skau of the UN World Food Programme presented concerning data about food security in Syria. "While we're managing to assist 1.5 million vulnerable people, this represents only half of those currently facing food insecurity," Skau reported. The WFP official called for increased international support to address the growing nutritional needs across Syria. Ammar Kahf from the Omran Center for Strategic Studies provided analysis on geopolitical challenges. "The path to stability requires both regional cooperation and the removal of economic barriers that currently hinder reconstruction efforts," Kahf explained. He emphasized that comprehensive solutions would need to address both security concerns and economic recovery simultaneously. The panel, which included Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz and UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, concluded that sustainable peace would require coordinated international action across multiple fronts. The Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2025 continues through the weekend, with additional sessions planned on regional security and economic development issues.
