Switzerland: Thousands march in Geneva to protest Israeli attacks and show solidarity with Palestine
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - APRIL 12, 2025: Thousands of people marched through the streets of Geneva on Saturday, April 12, to show solidarity with Palestine and protest Israeli attacks on Gaza. Protesters gathered at Place De Neuve before marching through the city center, waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans in French, English, and Arabic, including “Freedom for Palestine,” “Israel is a killer,” and “Stop the genocide in Gaza.” Participants also called for the release of Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli jails and condemned Israel’s military actions in Lebanon and Syria. Many held placards criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and expressing support for the Palestinian cause. The march ended at Parc Des Cropettes after nearly three hours, with police maintaining a heavy security presence throughout the event. The protest comes as the Israeli army continues its deadly assault on Gaza, which resumed on March 18, breaking a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that had held since January. More than 50,900 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its ongoing offensive in October 2023 — a campaign widely condemned as genocide. In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza. Writing by Aleyna Cil
