POLICE FORCES MARCHINGMILAN, ITALY - APRIL 12: Police intervened in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Milan, Italy's second largest city, after tensions erupted between demonstrators and the police. Around 15,000 demonstrators gathered in the centre of Milan, carrying Palestinian flags and calling for 'an end to the genocide in Gaza', 'no forced displacement of Palestinians' and 'an immediate permanent ceasefire'. The protest, which began in front of the city's main railway station, was organised with the support of Palestinian associations, trade unions and left-wing civil society organisations. According to local sources, tensions escalated when some demonstrators sprayed graffiti on bank windows as the march passed through Baiamonti Square. Police arrested several people involved in the vandalism, leading to clashes with demonstrators. Security forces responded with batons, while some protesters threw bottles and flares in return. Local media reported that seven people were arrested during the unrest. A group of protesters later staged a sit-in demanding the release of those detained.
