VARIOUS OF JAGAN CHAPAGAIN SPEAKING (English) TO MICROPHONE ANTALYA, TÜRKİYE - APR. 12: The Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Jagan Chapagain, called for an immediate end to violence targeting humanitarian personnel worldwide at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. In an interview with Anadolu on Saturday, Apr. 12, the forum’s Global Communication Partner, Chapagain underscored the escalating difficulties in providing aid to Gaza while acknowledging Türkiye’s crucial partnership with the IFRC. He specifically mentioned the Turkish Red Crescent’s significant contributions to relief operations in the region. Chapagain stressed the need to uphold core humanitarian principles and international law in Gaza, emphasizing that aid workers must be protected from attacks. He described the current threats faced by humanitarian personnel as unacceptable and demanded global action to ensure their safety. Highlighting Türkiye’s historical ties with the IFRC as a founding member, Chapagain pointed to the country’s extensive cooperation in addressing refugee crises, particularly its support for Syrians displaced by conflict. He noted that the Turkish Red Crescent remains a key provider of humanitarian assistance in Gaza despite increasingly challenging conditions. Chapagain expressed concern over the growing number of unresolved crises worldwide, where new conflicts and disasters emerge before existing ones are resolved. He characterized this trend as unsustainable and warned of its long-term consequences. The IFRC leader emphasized that diplomatic engagement and dialogue, such as that fostered by forums like the ADF, offer the only viable path forward. He praised Türkiye for initiating this important platform for international cooperation.
