A group of alleged robbers raided an armoured car at an airport before fleeing with cash in Colombia.

The incident occurred at Almirante Padilla Airport in Riohacha, Guajira Department, on Wednesday afternoon, April 9.

Reports said armed individuals entered the airport tarmac in pickup trucks and opened fire, posing a threat to bystanders and passengers.

Footage captured by a passenger on board an aircraft shows the suspects approaching an armoured vehicle and seizing bags of cash before fleeing in their vehicles.

A police pursuit followed along the Troncal del Caribe Highway, during which the suspects reportedly poured oil onto the road in an apparent attempt to hinder the pursuing officers.

Authorities later discovered one of the vehicles on fire. Locals were seen collecting partially burned banknotes from the scene.

The other vehicle and the suspects reportedly escaped. Police stated that four bags of cash were recovered, though the total amount stolen remains unclear.

Airport operations were briefly suspended during the incident. Officials have launched an investigation.
