In the Kariokor district of the capital Nairobi, young artisans use scrap metal pieces to create modified vehicles, robotic devices, portable biomass stoves and art accessories. The vocational training course, which includes approximately 30 young people, provides an income of between $5 and $10 per day and allows the young people to develop their technical and artistic skills. The course also aims to keep young people away from crime and substance abuse. The young people, who produce with recycled materials from local sources, also set an example in terms of sustainability.
