Los Angeles, United States - April 14, 2025 04/14/2025 12:00 am (GMT-0700) DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Sgt. Arnold Castellanos, supervisor in charge of the Los Angeles Police Department Street Racing Taskforce, said the department is working with other agencies to combat illegal street racing across Los Angeles. “We’re running a countywide operation in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Department as well as Long Beach PD, and we’re combating street racing throughout the city and the county of Los Angeles,” Castellanos said. He highlighted a recent incident involving a spectator. “This particular vehicle was stopped for aiding and abetting at a street takeover. Please understand, you don’t have to be the one that’s swinging around the intersection. You don’t have to be the one that’s putting people at risk,” he said. “You could just be a spectator, and if you’re blocking traffic, if you’re aiding and abetting in any way, spreading information to the next location, you can be charged with a crime. In this case, this person was charged with a crime, and their car is being put on about a 30-day hold.” Castellanos said law enforcement is determined to hold offenders accountable. “It’s always the ones that think they’re not going to get caught that get caught. Most times, we can’t catch everyone, but when we do catch you, please understand we’re going put every piece of legal — vehicle code, penal code — anything we can at our disposal against you to make sure that people understand and get the message that this will not be tolerated.” He closed with a message to the public. “I want people to understand that the police department is out here. Please be safe. Understand that if you get caught in a takeover, please stay in your vehicle. And to those involved in these takeovers, please understand we are monitoring you, we will find you, and we are going to arrest as many of you as we can. And we are going place your cars on hold as long as we can to keep others safe.”
