A stranded hiker was rescued from a 1,200-metre-high peak in Italy.

The mountaineer lost his way while descending the trail and slipped on uneven terrain, landing on a steep, rocky slope near a gully.

Authorities were alerted to the incident on Friday, April 11, and launched an emergency helicopter operation to locate and extract him.

Dramatic footage shows a responder being hoisted down into the rugged terrain above Scopello, Vercelli, to reach the holidaymaker. He was then airlifted together with the crew.

Authorities and the community praised the rescue team's swift and professional efforts to ensure the safety of those exploring the region's natural landscapes.
