Locals in Sumatra, Indonesia, were astonished by the discovery of a huge python believed to have consumed a missing calf.

Footage captured today, (Tuesday, April 15, 2025), in Sungai Tonang Village, North Kampar Subdistrict, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, shows a group of farmers capturing the large reticulated python. The snake is suspected of having eaten a four-month-old calf belonging to a local livestock owner named Zulfahmi.

Pauzan Oston, who filmed the encounter, explained that the discovery unfolded after Zulfahmi went to his plantation and realized his young calf was missing. "That's when Zulfahmi spotted a python that had already swallowed his calf," Oston recounted.

The head of Sungai Tonang Village, Yeni Rahman, added that Zulfahmi immediately alerted other villagers, who then rushed to his plantation to witness the enormous snake.

"The python is estimated to be 6 to 7 meters, or about 23 feet, long," stated Village Chief Yeni. "Together, the residents moved the python to the village office. Not long after, the snake died."

According to Yeni, python sightings are not uncommon in Sungai Tonang Village. She also noted that residents had previously encountered even larger pythons in the area.
