Palestinian death toll in Gaza rises to 51,000: health authorities
Storyline: The death toll of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip had climbed to 51,000 since the outbreak of the latest round of the Israel-Hamas conflict on Oct. 7, 2023, the Gaza-based health authorities said on Tuesday. In a press statement, the health authorities said that 116,343 others had been wounded in the ongoing Israeli military assaults. During the past 24 hours, at least 17 Palestinians were killed and 69 others wounded by Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling in various areas in the enclave, the health authorities said. Since the resumption of Israeli military operations in Gaza on March 18 this year, 1,630 Palestinians have been killed and 4,302 others wounded, it added. On Tuesday, The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continued to launch airstrikes on multiple locations in the Gaza Strip. According to reports from the Palestinian newspaper Al-Quds, since dawn on that day, Israeli airstrikes have led to 23 deaths in Gaza. The Palestinian official news agency reported that on Tuesday afternoon, an Israeli drone bombed a house near the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza, killing two Palestinians and injuring six others. In addition, Haaretz newspaper from Israel quoted a medical official in Gaza as reporting that the Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday killed nine members of the same family at their home in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. In another development, a senior Hamas official said on Tuesday that the group is expected to respond within 48 hours to a new ceasefire proposal for Gaza, which was presented by Israel through a mediator. According to the Hamas official, the proposal includes a ceasefire lasting at least 45 days and allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. During this period, Hamas would be required to release 10 detained Israeli individuals, while Israel would consider releasing 1,231 Palestinian detainees. The proposal also demands that Hamas disarm, a condition that Hamas has strongly opposed. Shotlist: Gaza Strip - April 13, 2025: 1. Various of rubbles after hospital hit by Israeli airstrike 2.
