HEBRON, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - APRIL 16, 2025: The Israeli army closed off the city center of Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, April 16, ahead of a raid by illegal Israeli settlers, on the fourth day of the Jewish Passover holiday. In preparation for the illegal settlers' incursion, Palestinian shops were forced to shut down, and residents faced severe movement restrictions. Hebron, a city in the southern West Bank under Israeli occupation, is home to approximately 400 illegal settlers, who are guarded by around 1,500 Israeli soldiers. Tension has been high in the occupied West Bank since the start of the Israeli genocide on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023, according to Palestinian figures. Since then, nearly 950 Palestinians have been killed and around 7,000 injured in attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers across the West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry reports. In July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s longstanding occupation of Palestinian territories illegal, calling for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
