VARIOUS OF GERMAN POLICE DETAINING PRO-PALESTINIAN PROTESTERSBERLIN, GERMANY - APR. 16: A group of students staged a pro-Palestine protest at Humboldt University in the German capital, Berlin, on Wednesday, Apr. 16. Police intervened and detained at least five protesters amid heightened security measures. The demonstrators had entered the building housing the Emil Fischer lecture hall to protest against Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the Berlin state government’s plan to deport four pro-Palestinian activists. The university administration requested the removal of the group, which was estimated to number between 40 and 60 people. More than 51,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in Gaza in a brutal Israeli onslaught since October 2023. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
