Motorcycle riders were seen taking a shortcut between buildings to evade a police checkpoint.

Footage shows motorists working together to lift a scooter up a set of steps, concealed from police stopping drivers on the road in Biliran, the Philippines, on January 18.

Some of them wore half-face helmets while others did not and wore short pants, which the country's Land Transportation Office prohibits.

Instead of passing along the road, the motorists squeezed through a narrow alley between two buildings to conceal themselves from authorities.

Onlooker Kent Renan Ochondra said: 'They changed course and sought an alternate route to dodge inspection.

'I am unsure if the police eventually called them out or successfully avoided the checkpoint.'

Traffic rule violations are a major issue in the Philippines, contributing to heavy congestion, accidents, and road chaos.
