Storyline: XR cinema in China puts moviegoers inside the action [Voice_over] The movie theatres of the future could look something like this one in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. Instead of sitting in a chair with a box of popcorn, you don a pair of XR glasses and find yourself immersed in the action. The XR or extended reality theatre opened in January this year and is the first of its kind in China. By combining the alphabet soup of AR, VR and MR, or augmented, virtual and mixed realities, XR, puts the moviegoer directly into the film, as a participant or sometimes from a third person point of view. Patrons at the theatre can view one of two historic-based films, each with stunning visuals. [Sound_bite] He Jing, Moviegoer: "It is very stunning. First of all, the characters in the film look incredibly realistic - everything from their clothing and modeling to their skin colors feels lifelike. I also learned a lot about history and culture and saw many historic sites through the film. The colors, actions, and scene transitions are all very well done and smooth." [Voice_over] A recent report from U.S. -based Allied Market Research predicts that the global XR headset market will be valued at more than 400 million U.S. dollars by the year 2031.
