Storyline: Gaza residents are struggling to survive amid severe food shortages caused by Israel's ongoing blockade, resorting to rudimentary makeshift ovens to meet even their most basic needs. Israel has blocked the entry of all humanitarian aid into Gaza since March 2. It then ended a two-month ceasefire with Hamas on March 18 and resumed deadly air and ground assaults on the enclave. Gaza residents are facing not only bombings and attacks, but also a silent battle for survival. Under such dire and catastrophic conditions, residents are forced to endure great hardship just to make a few pieces of flatbread, while bakeries across Gaza have been shutting down. In a displacement camp in Gaza City, 12-year-old Jameel Kadom helps his mother as she kneads dough. With no firewood to burn or materials to build a stove, they have no choice but to send the dough to a makeshift bakery elsewhere in the camp to be baked. The flour they're using comes from a small amount of aid received from international organizations more than six months ago. Some of it has already spoiled due to the humid climate. Due to the suspension of aid deliveries, the price of flour in Gaza has soared to over 10 shekels per kilogram. For Kadom's family, just buying enough flour each day now costs over 13 U.S. dollars, a burden that is becoming increasingly unbearable for a family displaced from their home. On the other side of the refugee camp lies Hamad Musa's makeshift home bakery, set up inside a tent. The air is thick with smoke and choked with acrid fumes. His stove is nothing more than a discarded metal barrel crudely modified for baking. Together with his wife -- who has lost one of her hands -- they burn anything they can find: cardboard, sawdust, or even plastic. In return for baking flatbreads for neighbors, they earn a meager income that barely helps them get by. The aid blockade has forced the shuttering of 25 bakeries in Gaza that had been supported by the World Food Programme (WFP), while Israel's evacuation orders increase and bombardments continue, the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on April 1. Meanwhile, international aid supplies remain blocked from entering the region. UN agencies had previously warned that if the food crisis is not alleviated, a famine could break out at any time. The renewed Israeli attacks have so far killed 1,652 Palestinians and injured 4,391 others, Gaza health authorities said Wednesday, adding the death toll in the enclave since the war began in October 2023 has risen to 51,025, with 116,432 injured. So my wife and I made this stove. We earn 20 shekels (about 5 U.S. dollars) a day from it to support our family. Nowadays, a piece of bread is the mainstay of people's life. Everyone is looking for bread." 6. Various of people baking bread on oven on street 7. Various of wood, other stuff collected by locals to bake bread. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
