This is the heartstopping moment a highway worker leapt away from an out-of-control truck.

The worker from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) had pulled over on the Interstate 81 near Whitney Point.

But a lorry came hurtling towards him at high speed. Dashcam footage shows the man jumping to safety as the vehicle smashed into a parked flat-bed truck, then hit the grass bank on the roadside.

Miraculously, nobody was hurt in the collision.

NYSDOT this week released footage of the accident from October 28, 2024.

Officials said the incident showed the 'importance of slowing down, staying alert, and moving over in work zones'.

They reminded the public that the lives of those working to keep roads safe depend on responsible driving.
