A motorcycle rider was seen on CCTV rampaging into a Catholic church aisle before sitting on a priest's chair.

CCTV footage shows the worshipper speeding along the red carpet runner with a female pillion passenger at San Martin de Tours Basilica in Batangas, the Philippines.

Upon reaching the front, the motorist stopped, and the woman quickly climbed down to exit the building.

The motorbiker then parked the two-wheeler and headed into the altar, where he was seen clapping while looking around on April 8.

Furious locals reported him to the police, and he was arrested later that day and was remanded in custody during the investigation.

Taal Municipal Police Station Police Captain Rommel Magno said: 'His statements were contradictory, and the motive for riding his motorcycle into the basilica remains unknown.'

The police captain added that the biker admitted to being under the influence of marijuana at the time.

He said: 'He will face charges under Article 133 of the Revised Penal Code for offending religious feelings.'

Article 133 of the Revised Penal Code in the Philippines penalises anyone who performs acts that are notoriously offensive to the feelings of the faithful in a place of worship or during a religious ceremony.

Violators may be punished with up to one year imprisonment.
