-DEIR AL-BALAH, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - APR. 18, 2025: An 11-month-old Palestinian baby died of undernourishment and lack of medication in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza Strip, on Friday, April. 18, amid an ongoing aid blockade on the enclave. Since March 2, Israel has closed Gaza’s crossings, blocking essential supplies from entering the enclave despite multiple reports of famine in the war-devastated territory. Tel Aviv tried to legitimize its inhumane move by claiming that after the first phase of the agreement ended, Hamas rejected a draft proposal for continuing negotiations put forward by US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and accepted by Israel. Hamas strongly condemned Israel’s decision to halt humanitarian aid to Gaza, calling it a "war crime" and a "blatant blow to the ceasefire agreement." The Israeli army renewed a deadly assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. More than 51,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in a brutal Israeli onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
