The pilgrims marched through the narrow cobblestone alleyways of the Via Dolorosa - the Way of Sorrows - many of them carrying big wooden crosses. Singing hymns and reading from the Gospels, they retraced the footsteps of Jesus to the 14 Stations of the Cross. Good Friday is part of Holy Week, which includes Holy Thursday (commemorating the Last Supper) and culminates in Easter Sunday, celebrating Jesus' resurrection. Via Dolorosa is believed by Christians to be the path walked by Jesus on the way to his crucifixion – towards the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
