A rare and extreme hailstorm struck Islamabad on April 16, 2025, with massive hailstones described as "tennis ball-sized" pelting the city. The Express Tribune reported hailstones ranging from marble to golf ball size, causing widespread damage to vehicles, rooftops, and infrastructure across the capital. The storm followed a sharp drop in temperature after a recent heatwave, a weather whiplash increasingly linked to climate change.

Studies published in Nature Climate Change (2023) highlight how rising global temperatures are fueling atmospheric instability, making extreme hail events more frequent—especially in vulnerable regions like northern Pakistan.
