VARIOUS OF RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS, STATUESCAIRO, EGYPT - APRIL 19, 2025: Coptic Orthodox Christians gathered for an Easter service at the Monastery of Saint Simon the Tanner in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday, April 19. Located on the slopes of the Mokattam Mountain in southeastern Cairo, the rock-hewn Saint Simon Monastery hosted a special Easter mass, marking one of Christianity’s most sacred holidays commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Worshippers filled the cave-style Monastery, singing hymns and offering prayers in celebration. The monastery, entirely carved into the rock, is widely recognized as one of the most remarkable examples of Coptic architecture and holds significant cultural and spiritual value in Egypt. Christians believe Holy Saturday is the day Jesus lay in the tomb after His crucifixion, a time of quiet reflection and waiting.
